The Destination Tourism Climate Action Plan for Dugi Otok, located in Zadar County, Croatia, has officially entered its final phase of development. This important milestone was marked by the third meeting of the Climate Action Taskforce, held on June 9, 2025.
The meeting brought together project partner NATURA-JADERA and key local stakeholders including the Municipality of Sali, Nature Park Telašćica, and the Tourist Board of Božava. The primary objective was to define and finalize the activities that will be included in the Action Plan.
Covering a ten-year period, the Plan aligns with the principles of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. It emphasizes the implementation of Ecosystem-based Approaches (EbA) and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) as central strategies to promote climate resilience, protect biodiversity, and foster sustainable tourism development on the island.
The Plan also aims to:
- Strengthen local capacities and inter-institutional cooperation,
- Promote climate-conscious tourism policies,
- Encourage community engagement and nature stewardship,
- Address climate risks and environmental challenges specific to island destinations.
The final version of the Action Plan is expected to be completed by the end of September 2025.
This initiative represents a significant step toward a greener, more sustainable future for Dugi Otok and serves as a model for other island destinations facing similar climate-related challenges.
