Apr 30, 2026

The 3rd Pilot Destinations Exchange Workshop, co-organised by IUCN Med and hosted by the Municipality of Villasimius Marine Protected Area of Capo Carbonara, concluded on 17 April with a guided field visit to organized by the Capo Carbonara MPA team, highlighting the delicate balance between environmental conservation and sustainable tourism in practice.

By the end of the three-day workshop, concrete next steps had not only been identified but also aligned across all participating destinations, giving the project a clear and coordinated path forward. Participants left with strengthened partnerships built on trust, active collaboration, and a deeper understanding of each destination’s specific context and challenges. Both the similarities and the differences identified among the destinations fostered peer-supported solutions and equipped partners with practical tools and tested ideas. Ultimately, the event underscored the value of collective action. By bringing together diverse expertise, from policymakers to local practitioners, the workshop demonstrated that complex climate challenges can be addressed more effectively through cooperation.

As the project enters its final phase (ending in September 2026), partners also discussed communication priorities and next key milestones:
